History Behind The Making of The Book - back to outline

The text for this book, "Guru Mani" or "Pearl of Wisdom", was originally an oral discourse or talk given by His Holiness, our Father, Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him) in 1945 in Ceylon to a small group of His disciples.

This discourse was written down in Tamil at the direction of His Holiness by one of these disciples. Tamil is one of the languages spoken in Ceylon, which is now called Sri Lanka.

Some time in 1940 in Ceylon, at the direction of His Holiness, this written text was turned into a Tamil version of this book, called "Guru Mani" or "The Pearls of The Guru".

In January 1, 2000 this same book was re-published in English, after being rendered into English by the late Mr M S A Cader for the benefit of the disciples of His Holiness all over the world, with the entire cost of publication being bourne by his son Dr Abdul Mahir ( Moscow).

The book was published in Ceylon and given the English name "Pearl of Wisdom".  Also, it is to be noted that previous attempts had been made to publish "Guru Mani" into English but they were never successful.

Finally, a very, very special thanks must be given to the devoted disciple of His Holiness who shouldered the main burden of rendering "Guru Man" into English from Tamil, our brother of light, Mohamedali Sultan Abdul Cader.  May the peace and blessings of God be upon you, my dearest loving brother, for this wonderful work and duty. About His Holiness, Ceylon, And The Fellowship - back to outline

And in closing, a little bit about His Holiness, Ceylon, and the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship.

Ceylon, which is now called Sri Lanka, is a small island located just off the tip of India.  This is where His Holiness lived prior to coming to America in 1971.  From 1971 to 1986 His Holiness commuted back and forth between Ceylon and America, attending to His disciples both in America and Ceylon until He physically left the world on December 8, 1986.

His Holiness is buried in America just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in a small area establish by His Holiness for the burial of His Children in America, which has become affectionately known as "The Farm".

Over the place of His burial, the Children of His Holiness have built a shine, called a Mazar, as an act of love, devotion, and respect for His Holiness.  This Mazar or shrine has become a place of pilgrimage for people throughout the world, and all are welcome.
